Dỡn, a woman in her 40s deemed “mad,” ekes out an existence with her ragged children in a dilapidated shack next to a garbage dump. Shunned by the villagers, her only possessions are these children—the results of silent tragedies. Despite her madness, Dỡn loves them with a pure instinct: she takes them bathing in the river under the moon, or gleefully snatches back offerings for wandering souls to bring home . It is a twisted happiness found amidst poverty.

That makeshift life is torn apart when a wealthy, strange couple appears. With just a colorful cotton jacket and a few bills , they lure Dỡn and “trade” for Kẹt, her youngest, still-breastfeeding child. In her madness, Dỡn innocently lets her child be taken away.

When Kẹt is gone, Dỡn’s breasts swell, aching painfully for the child who is no longer there to feed. This primal, physical agony, combined with the harsh truth from a neighbor, shatters Dỡn’s world of oblivion. She awakens.

This late awakening erupts into sheer madness. Dỡn screams as she searches for her child, chasing cars in vain. She torments herself, dredging the river, clawing through the garbage calling her daughter’s name. But the tragedy doesn’t kill Dỡn; it awakens a beast. And when a new threat emerges, targeting her remaining children, Dỡn is no longer the naive victim. She has become a mother beast, ready to protect her children at all costs.
